Back To Back Time Attack Pro Class Championships for NR Autosport
Gavin Renshaw and the NR Autosport team with their Time Attack Trophies Following from last year's success it was more of the same 2012 with five event wins out of a possible seven and thus a second Pro Class Championship crown.
With Gav Renshaw at the wheel once again and full preparation and race day support provided by the team from NR Autosport the customer owned Evo IX was almost unassailable notching up an incredible 740 points out of a possible maximum of 750.
Ironically the season got off to a disappointing start at Cadwell Park with the car suffering from some electrical gremlins. But the team got back into its winning ways at the next round at Knockhill and again at a very wet Brands Hatch.
A further pair of wins were achieved at the double-header Anglesey weekend and in the finale at Snetterton, once again in very wet conditions, the car and driver showed their true class by storming to a fifth victory. A remarkable feat and just reward for all the hard work that has everyone in the team has contributed throughout the year.
This year we have be grateful for the support of a number of key sponsors. Notably these include Performance Friction Brakes, Nitron Racing Shocks, Corbeau Seats and Luke Harnesses, Opie Oils and Wavetrac Diffs.
Throughout 2012 NR Autosport also provided full support to the customer car owned and driven by Andrew Barbour. His Evo V ran in the Club Pro Class and in spite of only being able to compete in five out of the seven rounds he came 3rd in the Championship and claiming two event victories along the way.
NR Autosport's History
The 1981 Colt Lancer Turbo EX2000. This is where the Evolution story began for Nick owner of NR Autosport, an exquisite example affectionately known as 'Little Bo' is the ultimate in an impressive line of LT's hes owned gleams as though it's no more than a day old! In fact it's 30 years old and now owned by a good friend of Nick's and resides at Mitsubishi HQ in Cirencester
Back in 1996 this linked Nick to the 'Lancer Turbo Register (LTR)', an enthusiast's car club for all things 'Lancer' and all things 'Turbo'. Nick was already working for the local Mitsubishi Dealer where he qualified as Master Technician and then advanced to Service Manager.
June 2002 ... NR Autosport Begins
As the years progressed and Mitsubishi themselves continued to push the boundaries of four door saloon cars to limit, the ‘LTR’ soon became the ‘MLR’ that is known so well amongst Evo owners today. Thanks to the evolution of the MLR, this was the inspiration for Nick to leave Lincoln Mitsubishi and offer a specialist market for the Lancer Evolution – and so in June 2002, NR Autosport began.
Sticking to what he excels at and not wanting to be ‘jack of all trades’, NR has been able to establish itself as one of the most well respected Evo tuning companies in the UK Since opening, Nick has always run the day to day tasks in very much a “hands on” fashion from the workshop - not the office!
The first encounter ...
Nick's first encounter with Evo's was back in 1997, when the owner of Lincoln Mitsubishi imported an Evo 5 GSR. The vehicle turned up on a transporter with a flat battery, not the most impressive entrance! After a quick recharge he attempted to take it for a road test, but there was no drive. They could even get it into gear without using the clutch! It was quickly discovered that someone at the docks had been launching it and the clutch fell out of the inspection hole into the bell housing!
A new clutch was delivered from Japan in 2 days (lots of stamps) and after fitting the test drive could go ahead. Dr Good (R1 GOOD) bought the car 6 months later and still owns it to this day; it is now running an NR 600bhp package. The car has been maintained by NR Autosport for some 130,000 miles and is still going strong today
NR Autosport has become something of a 'One-Stop-Shop' be it servicing, rebuilding, converting, mapping or any other 'ing you can think of NR does it, and does it well. They tend to only recommend products that they have tried and tested and always quote-conservative power figures.
This may put people off as they can get more bhp elsewhere but if they chose one of NR's packages rest assured they will be happy, as have many customers to date. |
