Round up of 2008 Time Attack

Time Attack 2008 Round 1 Donnington Park:

Rain and snow greeted the first round of Time Attack. However, Lee’s car was transformed. A little like a caterpillar into a butterfly some could not believe it was actually the same car!

Lee had not driven the car for 8 months and adjusting to the new spec was difficult, spinning 4 wheel sideways down the straight was no fun at all according to Lee! Finally the sun came out and the car was pushed some more which resulted in the standard gearbox breaking in 3rd. Lee finished 9th overall.

So now preparation for round 2

Time Attack 2008 Round 2

Following a surprisingly dry Scottish weekend the Time Attack village gathered together for Round 2 of the 2008 Season.

NR Autosport had presence in the form of Lee Broadhurst's Evo 9 GT in Pro Class and Steve Thorpe's Evo 8 MR in Club Class.

Lee Broadhurst finished in 8th position behind a long list of professional drivers! Steve Thorpe finished 10th Overall in the Club Class, Well done guys.

Time Attack 2008 Round 3 Silverstone:

Lee was really looking forward to this round. Tarzan Yamarda was attending and driving at this meeting. In the qualification round Lee was 0.1 sec behind him. Lee really enjoyed running the car in the dry conditions for the first time this season and finished 7th overall. He also received the HKS Hard Charger Award for all his efforts.

Time Attack 2008 Round 4 Oulton Park:

This was the first time at Oulton Park for Lee and a wet first practice session saw Lee in 5th with a 1.49 min lap. It dried out for the morning 1st timed session achieving a 1.40 min lap and 9th overall. Nick worked on the Tein suspension and by the 3rd session of the day (Super Battle) the best time was 1.33 min and 10th overall.

Steve – Update to follow

Oulton Park was the first attempt at Time Attack for Phil Young. Phil did remarkably well and in his own words was “chuffed” (an understatement to say the least!) to be presented with the HKS Hard Charger award for doing so well on his first time out. Well done Phil!

So onward and upward to round 5

Time Attack 2008 Round 5 Brands Hatch:

Like Oulton Park this was the first time at Brands Hatch for Lee. In the morning warm up whilst still learning the track Lee went straight into the 54 sec barrier. Unfortunately going into Druids corner he lost drive in 3rd (the dog ring selector broke). So there was no choice but to end the day after the morning practice.

Time Attack 2008 Round 6 Snetterton:

After a late start due to a foggy morning the sun eventually came out to shine on the righteous!

NR Autosport were once again represented by Lee Broadhurst’s Evo 9 GT Pro Class, Steve Thorpe’s Evo 8 MR and not forgetting Phil Young with his Evo 6 in Club Class.

Running the cars on pump fuel, as unfortunately the delivery of race fuel did not arrive in time, Lee came 8th overall and is the top independent in Pro Class.

Steve achieved a very impressive 16th in Club Class, just missing out on the Super Battle by one place. For Phil this was only his second round at Time Attack and achieved some very respectable lap times. Well-done Phil! Congratulations guys!

Time Attack 2008 Conclusion:

So was all the hard work and transformation of Lee’s and Steve’s car worth it? To quote Lee “The results speak for themselves”. Lee, Steve and Nick are delighted with the outcome from a lot of time, hard work and of course the root of all evil, money!

So unlike the roller coaster of 2007 this season was like having a go on the Waltzer. Fast, furious and not for the feint hearted. The fair has finished for this year but the guys can’t wait for it to be back in town in 2009!

So what will 2009 bring? Maybe we should ask Santa for a crystal ball!
